Fulham have confirmed the capture of French goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte from Ligue 2 side Montpellier for a fee of £500,000.

The 34 year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Craven Cottage and is expected to act as the back-up keeper to Bernd Leno following Steven Benda’s departure for Millwall on loan. Lecomte, who ended his second stint with Montpellier following their relegation from the top flight in May, has made more than 300 Ligue 1 appearances and earned a call-up to the French national team in 2018.

Speaking after signing his Fulham contract, the new signing told FFCTV:

“I’m really, really happy and proud to join Fulham because it’s a new step in my career and I think it will be really nice to be part of the club.”

He could make his first appearance for the Whites in this afternoon’s pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest in Faro.
