Fulham are leading the competition in the chase for Inter Milan’s Iranian international Mehdi Taremi, according to reports from Italy.

Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport claims in today’s edition that the Nerazzurri would be willing to allow the 32 year-old to leave on a free transfer as he is surplus to requirements and they are seeking to shave their wage bill to bring in summer signings. Previous reports have placed the 6ft 2in forward’s value at around £6m. Taremi scored just three goals in 43 appearances for Inter after leaving Porto, where he scored 91 goals in 182 games, last summer.

Various Italian outlets have suggested the Whites have placed the most concrete proposals in front of Inter and Taremi’s representatives. Sky Sports Italia suggests that a deal could be done within a few days as Marco Silva is seeking alternatives for Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz up top. Several other clubs have been linked with the Bushehr-born striker, including Besiktas, Nottingham Forest and Fenerbahce. Taremi has scored 53 goals in 92 games for Iran, including ten in fifteen World Cup qualifiers.
