Fulham captain Tom Cairney has signed a new one-year contract, the club have confirmed this evening.
The Scottish international, who has made more than 350 appearances for the Whites, returned to pre-season training at Motspur Park today and ended the speculation about his future by signing on for another season at Craven Cottage.
Cairney told FFCTV this evening:
“I’m happy to sign for another year at this amazing football club, I’m delighted. It feels brilliant. It feels right. It’s always been home. I’ve fully enjoyed the last three years in the Premier League, contributing on and off the pitch, and I just want to help take this club as far as I can. I’ll always try and do that.”
Good news great to have him in squad be good example to all new signings we’re getting hopefully?
He deserve it. He has been so loyal which is rare these days.He is a good example and will help the 1ounger players. I also believe he can contribute from the substitutes bench even if only for 15 minutes. Although we know he now has limitations he did more last season for the team than ESR and Pereira our dead ball specialist!!!
Been a great servant. Seen the good & bad times under present ownership. Farewell tour come March might become a distraction if anything to play for? Penny for Josh Kings thoughts?
Anit nobody…..delighted.
John, ESR did get a few goals before he tailed off. TC’s season as it went on got better and as it happened ended with the beesknees..
Glad your with us TC and thanks
I am so happy for Tom and the true FFC supporters now I hope after that year he will be offered a job within FFC, thanks Tom and Tony Khan COYW.
Feels like a move based on sentiment rather than reality. Would have preferred to see a young signing in.
Great news TC is our only signing but more importantly we are the only club in the Premiership who have not brought anybody or brought out a new shirt, this arrogance by TK towards us fans is beyond belief every season but we have to put up with it so we will wait until about 10:00pm on the last day of the transfer window so no time to integrate new players so we have all been scammed by a very good scam TK got our money and we have resigned TC
Rather than doom and gloom let’s take count of the summer so far :
– TC turned down 3 years at Wrexham to stay at Fulham
– Silva , turns down multiple offers
– Tete stays 3 years turning down Everton
– Muniz and seems Robinson not moving anywhere
– Raul Golden cup hero and is blazing with Confidence
– Luc de Fougerolles signed a new four-year deal , yea we are leveraging our academy players
– and unwanted players off the payroll
So main objective of keeping the nucleus achieved . This will make Fulham more secure and more attractive for new signings and we have no rush .
New Kit? Seriously we can wait for that .
I’m with Pezz. I’ve been as vocal as anyone over the years that we need to do our business early and get our squad together. Everyone knows that’s the ideal. But…..keeping Marco and our best players together was the priority and that’s been done. With the squad we have do we need to panic with who’s playing on Day 1…Absolutely not! Do we need additional players to move us forward? Obviously. Will they come…absolutely. I think we just have to accept that it’s the way we do things. But with the squad we have we only need 3 or 4 now to make a step change. There’s no panic. We have the players for the first few games which we haven’t always had. It’ll be last minute additions but they’ll arrive…and if they’re an upgrade then wow we’re in business. COYW
Agree with you Dave, unless we are looking to sell which doesn’t seem to be the case we have a good squad with maybe a couple of additions. If we do buy then who do you leave out as not many players like to come to a new club and just sit on the bench.
Interesting comments. Feeling seems divided between fans who are happy with what we’ve got with the hope of picking up a bargain at the end of the. Then there are those who listened to the vibes coming from the club that we are ready to take the next step. I am firmly in the latter group. Last year we had a great opportunity for getting into Europe. We did not achieve this due to the team running out of steam late on due to their age and having to field a team with injured players
We have all known for the past 3 months what needs to change on the pitch and possible incomings must have been identified. Management must know how much cash is available to spend. There are only 31days left before the season kicks off and it’s frustrating that all the other teams are buying and we are not. So far we haven’t taken the next step, if anything we have gone backwards. We have signed Tete for a further 3 years, a player that has only played 50% of available games since his arrival due to injury. We have signed Tom on again although at best he can only play half a match occasionally. We have lost Callum Osmond and probably Seth Ridgeon. We have done nothing to reduce the age of the squad, in fact they will be a year older. The player we are closest to signing is 32 years old.
Real positives are that we still have Marco, Robinson and Muniz…so far. The other plus is that we are reruiting a dead ball coach but we still need a player who can take a free kick or corner.
Fair to say I’m disillousioned but optimistic we can pull a rabbit out of the hat in time for kick off
I agree with Pezz’s positive take. This is fantastic news for the long-term sustainability of the team. It also demonstrates loyalty, a very rare quality in professional sport these days. Now, we need to top up the team by training and keeping a few of our own youngsters.
