Fulham right back Kenny Tete will join Everton on a free transfer next month – as revealed by Fabrizio Romano this morning.
The Dutch defender rejected Fulham’s offer of a new contract in February, preferring to explore his options as a free agent. The Whites tabled an offer to Tete as detailed on the club’s official website earlier this month, but the twenty-seven year old has opted to become David Moyes’ first summer signing as the Toffees prepare to move to Bramley Moor Dock.
The end of Tete’s five-year spell in SW6 is a blow for Marco Silva, who wanted to keep hold of his first choice right back. Fulham are acting to acquire first-rate competition for Timothy Castagne. Representatives of Italian international Raoul Bellanova have held talks with Fulham’s chief executive, Alistair Mackintosh and Fulham are at the front of the queue of suitors for Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, who is set to leave St. Mary’s in eight days time.
as long as Marco does not follow
One of our best players. Very difficult to replace and doesn’t help he’s going on a free. His only problem is his injury record.
Another injury prone player, he will fit right in at Everton
Terrible Tete news. He’ll be missed. Marco is going to need to overhaul the team with this loss and suspected upcoming departures. Perhaps it’s time to advance some younger players in a managed fashion.
I agree with Phil. It is a growing trend for players across leagues to run down their contracts and then depart with no transfer fee – but it sure *feels* like it happens more often with Fulham. The extra depressing part of Tete’s departure is the idea that he’s left for Everton, a team that finished below us last year.
We will sign someone to replace Tete – but those transfer fee $$$ for a new RB is money *not* being spent on positions that felt like a greater need when the season ended. Also, filling a spot we “had covered” is burning more bandwidth for the club’s front office – which often seems like a bigger obstacle for Fulham than maybe it should.
All that being said, if Tete struggles with injuries like he did for us last year – he turns 30 in October – perhaps him leaving isn’t the worst thing. Hopefully this helps our squad get younger.
Sad to see him go but ,because of his age and his injuries it was not wise to give him long contract !!.Players are available here !! Kyle Peters and coufal !!
I don’t mind Kenny going as long as we have some one of the same calibre to replace him, part of the deal to keep Silva was the board ie Khan Snr and the boy to back him with marquee signings before the transfer window closes let’s wait and see also let’s start blooding some of the young players, King,Godo,FigRolls etc sooner or later these guys have to be integrated into the squad permanently
Good servant to the club but has become Injury prone so if he can screw the Toffees out of a contract god luck to him
Very sad to read this. First of all Tete was a top player, very consistent, did his defensive work and also great going forward. What however makes me sad is seeing him go to Everton. They might have a new stadium but Everton are surely not that a big leap forward. Lately rhey finish behind us almost every season, it makes me worry. It shows lack of ambition from our club, if you can’t keep a player like Tete how are you going to attract top quality players?
