PSV Eindhoven are not interested in selling Fulham target Ricardo Pepi this summer – and will only change their mind if they receive ‘bizarre bids’ for the American forward, according to reports from the Netherlands this afternoon.
Fulham have a long-standing interest in the 22 year-old, whom they have scouted extensively over the past year, and he features on a shortlist of possible signings who could supplement Marco Silva’s striking options this summer. The Londoners’ desire to lure the Texan-born attacker to Craven Cottage has been highlighted by the Daily Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath and acknowledged additionally this morning by Fabrizio Romano alongside interest from Italian and Spanish sides, but Eindhovens Dagblad‘s PSV correspondent Rik Elfrink reports that the Eredivisie champions are not ready to let Pepi leave Eindhoven.
PSV, who turned down a £21m offer from West Ham United for Pepi in January, can demand a hefty fee for the striker, who scored 17 goals in 28 games last season, because Pepi signed a contract extension until 2030. Elfrink reveals that the clubs who have registered an interest in the striker’s availability are only willing to pay around £25m – whereas Rood-witten would probably demand something akin to Fulham’s approximate valuation of Rodrigo Muniz. In Elfrink’s own words, those would be ‘bizarre bids’.
That’s because Pepi has also been sidelined since mid-January with a knee injury and is unlikely to return to full training for another month – meaning the former Augsburg and Groningen striker would not pass a medical. A deal for the highly-rated centre forward, who has scored 26 goals in 68 first-team games for PSV, appears unlikely at this point. We understand that Fulham have yet to submit any formal offers for forwards this summer and recognise the difficulty in acquiring Pepi.
Interesting, genuine question, is he worth it?
Forget about him we need someone who can start playing straight away and not someone who’s already injured.
Agree with John know more players with injuries for big prises
