Fulham are holding talks with the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Rocco Reitz, according to Jack Kelly.
The German under-21 international has made 68 appearances for his boyhood club, scoring eight goals, having joined Mönchengladbach’s academy aged nine. He made his senior debut in a 3-2 win at Mainz in October 2020, and after two loan spells with Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden, became a first-time regular in the 2023-2024 campaign, scoring six goals in 37 games as Gerardo Seoane’s side finished fourteenth in the Bundesliga and reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal.
Reitz, who trained with Germany’s senior side ahead of the 2024 European Championships, scored twice in 27 games last term as Gladbach finished tenth. He is currently playing for the German under-21 side that have roared back from 2-0 down to be on level terms with England in the Under-21 European Championship final. The talented midfielder’s £17m release clause becomes active next July for sides in the Champions League, which could persuade Gladbach to sell this summer according to reports in Germany. West Ham United are said to be the fronrunners for Reitz’s signature.
Silva is known to be looking to add bite to his midfield over the close season and the Whites are exploring the possibility of a return to Craven Cottage for Joao Palhinha, who left for Bayern Munich last summer. A deal for the Portuguese international, who turns 30 this summer would have be financially viable, and the Cottagers are casting a wide net for younger holding midfielders across the continent.
This feels like every other window that TK has been involved in. Rumour after rumour and nothing happens. I see Sunderland have just bought a player we were targeting. They just put their hand in their pocket and did it. Why can’t we ??
Marco must be getting totally frustrated by now. We still haven’t sorted out the Tete and Cairney situations yet. Should have been done before the window opened and Muniz should have been offered a longer contract.
Don’t think I’ll look at all the rumours again until the last day of the window.
C.B. is right here !! Why wait and wait until late in the window !! Penny Pinching won’t get us anywhere !! Need the squard ready and running by late July !! I am as frustrated as anybody else here .
The last 3 years have seen some very good business except ESR a disappointment so far ( but let’s see) . There is no need to panic buy . The Khans and Silva have a good relationship and the Khans have constantly coughed up the cash. COYW !
Agree with Pezz, it irritates me when people complain about the Khans. I supported Fulham through the Ernie Clay era, I and many others donated money when the club was bankrupt and playing in the lowest division to 4,000 at the cottage so be careful what you wish for.
Re. transfers, clubs/players have to want sell/transfer to us, throw in PSR and the need to avoid overpaying and it’s a complicated process. As we know most deals happen near the end of the window. Take João Palhinha, it’s reported that he doesn’t want to come back to Fulham so don’t blame the Khan’s when he signs for Man U.
You guys are deluded if you think the Khan’s don’t put their hands in their pockets. Incredible really considering the amount they have invested and written off.
The advice you’re giving out to consciously over pay for players… yeah sounds like really great advice, I’m sure they’ll take such insightful gems into consideration. With PSR rules in place I can’t see that ending badly at all.
It is a frustrating approach that
we have to get all our business done at the end of the window, but it has worked for us. We do not need a complete squad overhaul so realistically we’ll be going into pre season with more strength in depth than any other under Marco, even without further signings.
We were all led to believe this window was going to be a turning point where we would transform from an average Premier League team to a team pushing for Europe. Marco must have known what he needed long before the season finished and possible incomings identified. All this waiting and pennypinching achieves nothing. By the time we enter the fray the quality players have been snapped up, there is less choice and clubs get the price they want because we become desperate to sign players.
If we want to enhance the squad we need to act sooner rather than later.
I also appreciate that the Khans have done a good job but after the promise of last season and the vibes coming out of the club am I wrong to expect more
The immediate issues is getting Cairney and Tete to sign new contracts there current ones expires tomorrow. All has gone quiet on both fronts so perhaps its not looking good . Then give Muniz a long term contract with a big buy out clause 60 million plus As for all the transfer in rumours i am not sure how many are true, If Tete which seems highly lightly a new right back must be an urgent priority
I totally agree with CB we do the same every Transfer window it’s all talk and promises we need action, why haven’t we offered a new long contract to Muniz before he decides he will be better off somewhere else and runs his contract down.
I think problems arise when one sees other clubs seemingly spending cash with apparently no regard for PSR. Worse still attracting players we’ve shown interest in. The situation is so complexed that it virtually impossible to make direct comparisons. I’m sure TK & Senior understand the financials better than we do and try to act in everyone’s best interests. Particularly galling is to see those clubs immediately around us prospering, but good luck to them. Brentford, Forest, Bournemouth and the like appear to have a far more efficient transfer setup than us, I’m sorry to say.
Not sure where C B has been getting his vibes. The consistent message is we have a budget that keeps us the right side of FFP. That means we do have to be smart with our signings and yes, that may take slightly longer. Some clubs can pay over the odds to get deals done, Liverpool with Wirtz and Man U with every player ever signed, being two examples. We aren’t that club. If Kenny leaves we need a right back. Otherwise we could do with a back up left back (Sess should only be used as a left mid/winger), a centre mid and another striker. Not much really. Would prefer us to sign players in the first half of their 20s rather than older, but not going to complain if we resign Joao or get Taremi. There will be multiple players on Marco’s list for each position. Don’t panic and pay over the odds for the first one.
I don’t get the problem.
Summer has always been when the media and agents make up a load of old bull to try to fill column inches/try to pocket a %age of their client’s transfer fee.
It’s not something exclusive to the TK era. We’ve always, as far as I can recall, been slow out of the blocks when it comes to finalising signings.
I’d rather we haggled to get value then paying the top line price. And I would argue that we lose far more players we’re linked to simply because a bigger/more prestigious club comes in for them.
Lazy journalism. His Release clause comes into effect next summer not this & is only for clubs in the champions League.
Click bait!
In my opinion the khan’s have put cash into our club, it does also benefit them tax wise, in saying that I do feel we need another director of football.
Signing players is just like going to the supermarket and picking exactly what you want off the shelf and paying the price shown on the label, isn’t it? Why do club chairmen always make it so complicated?
I worry that agents are using us to up their players asking price with other teams.
I see both sides are f the argument, we need players in for preseason training, to give us the best chance at the beginning of the premiership and beyond. On the other hand the best deals can be obtained by holding out. Overall I’d say the Khans are much improved Bernd Leno being the best transfer in recent times; however, we lose points every season to players not having a preseason and being properly embedded into the team – every job has it problems I guess.
Going back to Reitz it looks like West Ham have the Upper hand here
