Fulham captain Tom Cairney is close to clinching one more year at Craven Cottage, according to Give Me Sport.

The Scottish midfielder’s ten year stint in SW6 appeared to be coming to end after he had failed to reach agreement with the Fulham hierarchy over a new deal – but the 34 year-old now seems set to snub lucrative approaches from a clutch of Championship clubs, including Wrexham, and a host of foreign sides to remain part of Marco Silva’s squad.

Cairney, who led the Whites to two Wembley Championship play-off victories, has made 354 appearances and scored 47 goals since signing for Fulham from Blackburn Rovers in June 2015. The peerless playmaker has played a pivotal role in re-establishing London’s oldest professional outfit as a Premier League force, with his header at Brentford last month helping Silva’s side secure their first win in Hounslow since his stoppage-time strike at Griffin Park eight years ago.

Keeping Cairney at the Cottage will be a big boost for Silva, who is set to lose the services of right back Kenny Tete next week after the Dutch defender decided to join Everton on a free transfer.
