Kenny Tete told FFCTV that he is proud to be have been part of the Fulham squad that has made history this season – and spoke about he hopes to extend his stay at Craven Cottage for many ‘more years’ to come.
The Dutch right back was disappointed that Marco Silva’s side couldn’t finish the season on a high by beating Manchester City. Speaking during the lap of honour following the final whistle, the Dutch defender said:
“We started a bit shaky, I would say. We had a few chances and could have scored with a bit more luck. I think we had three big chances and we have to score a minimum of two and we didn’t do that today.”
The right back felt Fulham should have had a penalty late on when Reuben Dias appeared to handle the ball in the box – but believed the Whites had more than enough chances to earn a share of the spoils.
“I think it was a clear penalty. Obviously, Man City is a big team and sometimes that get a bit of favour, but I don’t want to complain about that too much – what’s done is done, it’s happened. Sometimes you will get a penalty, another day you will not. I think we were a bit unlucky with that. We still had plenty of chances anyway and we just have to score and we didn’t do that.”
Tete, whose contract expires at the end of next month, appeared to suggest that he wants to stay in SW6 rather than leave on a free transfer.
“I’m proud of the team. I’m proud that I’m part of this group who made history for this football club. I’m pleased. 54 points – again, it is a club record and I hope we can build on this. I’m really pleased and thankful. I always give one hundred per cent and even when I walk through the streets in Fulham, they [the fans] always say, ‘Kenny, we like it and you give 100%,’ I’m a proud Fulham player. Hopefully, we can add more years and – if not – I will always be in the hearts of the Fulham fans and they are also in my heart.”
