Reports from Italy suggest that Juventus are now strongly considering appointing Marco Silva as their new head coach after failing to land some of their top targets.
Sky Sport Italia report that the Bianconeri are mulling over the merits of the Fulham head coach after failing to persuade Antonio Conte, who guided Napoli to the Serie A title this season, to take over after they sacked Thiago Motta in March. Igor Tudor’s caretaker reign looks set to end after the Club World Cup this summer but Juve also missed out on Gian Piero Gasperini, who will manage Roma instead.
Di Marzio discloses that the initial contact with Silva was engineered by the Portuguese manager’s agent, Jorge Mendes, but it is clear that Silva remains just one of a number of contenders for the vacancy, which may not be as attractive as in previous seasons with the Old Lady in dire need of a rebuild. Football Italia asserts that a potential Silva appointment wouldn’t find favour with the Juventus fans, who would want a bigger name to reverse their recent struggles.
Bit of a worry, and may have to wait till after club World Cup to find out won’t give us much time before next season is on us . Must say the new tournament is another players don’t need who should be resting for new season. Its getting silly
I hope this is another rumour why are no other premiership managers touted for this job who have had more success than Silva,I ie Howe Moyes Frank etc I really suspect the media are hoping this will happen as they don’t like Fulham full stop because of our success in recent seasons
Same question Keith, those you mention would all be possible choices, better in some cases. Maybe there are rumours on Newcastle and Little Brentford’s sites. Down the years I have never seen a rumour regarding Frank, which seems strange. Anyway, not sure the media have some cabal that operates against FFC, definitely not based on our ‘ success’. Think Brentford have probably improved more than us, though I don’t really enjoy admitting it.
I hope Silva stays, unfortunately out of our hands.Fingers crossed.
If he is approached, it would be hard for him to resist. Massive club, one of the European greats, and definitely a step from Fulham FC. I suppose it depends on how happy he is in his present role, and Fulham FC’s ambition.
I’d hate to see Marco go, as it seems he’s building and improving us year on year. I’d like to see him complete what he’s started.
However, if the Vecchia Signora comes knocking, I wouldn’t blame him for going somewhere where he’d have a higher profile and a much bigger budget to play with.
Marco would be mad to take this job. Juve are a basket case. They promised Motta time to turn the ship around – and bombed him out by March. The board are going to go back on their word to Igor Tudor and even Conte – a bone fide club legend – told them where to go.
The Juve fans are far from impressed with talk of Silva coming in – one popular fans’ website suggested it was like downgrading to a Ducati from the Lamborghini you really wanted only to end up with a scooter.
I don’t buy the idea that this is agent driven even if Mendes is a snake. Juve don’t know where to go, their squad is ageing and they only their former glories to trade off. Marco should stay where he is loved and I think he will, especially given his ditching of Watford for Everton left him out of work for ages.
Remember that London’s oldest professional football club once came back from 4-1 down to knock La Fidanzata d’Italia out of the Europa League and take us back to Europe, Marco.
Window doesn’t open until 16th and already the rumours are starting. Same every season, I try to ignore it. Last season we were linked with about 200 players and we didn’t start shopping until the last week. I’m hoping for a turnaround this window and TK starts shopping in the 1st week instead of sitting on his hands and waiting to pick up someone on the cheap.
Well I can dream!!
Difficult not to speculate though isn’t it? Like you hope TK moves quickly. It’s the early bird that catches the worm and there’s a mass of competition out 5here.
Clickbait.
