Alex Iwobi insists Fulham’s season ‘is not done’ despite the disappointing defeat at home to Everton on Saturday that scuppered the Whites’ European hopes.
The Nigerian international was frustrated with the way Marco Silva’s side surrendered another winning position – to make this 28 points Fulham have dropped this term after going ahead. Iwobi told the club’s official website:
“Of course, it was disappointing. We felt we controlled the first-half and then when they scored the equaliser, it probably boosted them for the second half. We had a few chances to put away in the first-half which we didn’t capitalise on, and obviously we’re disappointed to concede from set pieces yet again. I’m not too sure what it is. It’s something we need to work on in training – we’ve been telling each other to focus more.”
Iwobi admitted that he’s struggling to put his finger on why the Whites have been so poor against the lower-ranked sides over the course of this campaign.
“If you look at the rest of the season, we’ve been doing really well and we’ve been getting points against strong sides, solid sides – especially the top teams. But unfortunately it’s games like these where we need to get the points that we haven’t been able to do so.
I couldn’t tell you what it is but whatever it is, we need to sort it out because we’ve still got a few games to go and we have to end the season as strong as we can. The season’s not done – let’s see what we can do.”
Talking about it won’t fix it and only playing for half of the game won’t win us anything either, the players need more effort and we have to be more clinical, we also need better corners and free kicks which we are useless at and I hope we can bring in some quality players this summer and do our business early so they have time to settle in.
