Kenny Tete was delighted to end his four month injury lay-off by helping Fulham record a famous win over league leaders Liverpool last Sunday.

The Dutch international, who injured his posterior cruciate ligament at Anfield before Christmas, came on as a substitute at Craven Cottage to help Marco Silva’s side win a five-goal thriller and breathe new life into their bid for European qualification.

Tete told FFCTV earlier this afternoon:

“I was very happy that I was back finally – it took a while. I was happy for the fans, for my family for our team-mates. It took a while, so I’m glad to be back. What a game to come back in. I’m so proud of the boys and the way that we done it: fighting for every duel. Everyone in the team knew what we had to do. We needed every player in team and every player has a value. I knew I had to come in [from the bench], be ready and I think I was ready.

I obviously need more games but I was really happy that I could play [my part] in this game. I just see it game by game and I train hard, work hard … [which is] what I’ve been doing for the last four month and let’s see where we are going. I literally got goose bumps when I heard the fans chanting my name. That’s what you are doing it for when you are a football player, you’re going into the big games giving it all for the fans and everything. I must say thanks for the great welcome and their support as always.”

The likeable right back gave an insight into his painstaking recovery from an injury that was much serious than he and Fulham first thought.

“I had a huge impact on my knee [in the draw with Liverpool last December]. We didn’t expect that it would be that big and that it was on my knee basically. It was in the back of my knee, the PCL. I walked around for ten weeks in a knee brace and I had to build it up slowly. It was a big process and a lonely path. But I’m back now – everyone is always happy to back – and I’m happy to be back.

I’ve never been out for so long. I reached out to Harry [Wilson] as well. I spent a lot of time with him [in the treatment room]. I just tried to make the best of it with the medical team and obviously there were good days and bad days. I went to almost every game at the Cottage to support the boys. I’m missing it obviously during those times and I’m so glad to be back.”

Tete revealed that he is really looking forward to a big week for the Whites, with clashes against fellow European contenders AFC Bournemouth and local rivals Chelsea, likely to go a long way to determining Fulham’s position in the final Premier League table.

“I want to take it game by game. I speak for myself, but also for the team, I think we have every reason to fight [to the end of the season]. I think if you look at last Sunday again [beating Liverpool], we have so much potential. I don’t want to put so much pressure on us, in terms of Europe, but as a team we spoke [together] and we want to aim for as high [a finish in the league] as possible. That’s what we are aiming for. The games like Bournemouth away, Liverpool at home and the SW6 derby are the ones you are doing it for. I can’t wait.”
