Ryan Sessegnon saluted his side’s ‘resilience’ as Fulham fought back from a goal down to stun league leaders Liverpool at Craven Cottage yesterday.
The Motspur Park academy graduate helped Marco Silva’s side recover from the shock of Alexis Mac Allister’s long-range strike with an instinctive finish after Andreas Pereira’s cross struck makeshift right back Curtis Jones. His leveller sparked a swift turnaround as Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz gave the hosts a 3-1 half-time lead. Substitute Luis Diaz reduced Liverpool’s arrears, but Fulham held on to claim a precious three points.
Sessegnon told FFCTV after the final whistle:
“It feels amazing. I’m happy to contribute with a goal again, the most important thing was to get the three points. I’m just so happy that we won the game. We’ve got big belief in the team, resilience. It’s not easy to go 1-0 down against the league leaders and to score three goals so quickly. It was amazing. It shows the belief we have in the squad and in each other. I’m so happy.”
Speaking about his goal, Sessegnon said:
“The ball just came from the left side and I kind of just tried to make sure I had good contact on the ball, because you can easily sky those balls over the bar. As it came, I judged it well and just tried to make good contact and thankfully it went in. That’s what attackers in the team are there to do. We want to make decisive moments and win decisive games.”
He hopes that the confidence generated by an outstanding display can lift Silva’s side for a tricky test at Dean Court next Monday, where the Whites will be looking for more points:
“Definitely. We’ve got Bournemouth next, who are in and around us as well. So, if we can get three points there, we’re definitely right up there for the European spaces”.
Sess for me it’s a starter now. Remember he came from almost not playing a single game last season, so despite almost everyone wants him to play all games 90 minutes (including me) I think Silva is managing is fitness very well, but now I think it’s time for him to be in the starting eleven. COYW
Totally agree Sess has to play from start to finish.
Sess must be able to feel the love from the stands every time he steps on to the pitch. Top player with room to grow further, and seemingly such a nice bloke as well. Not only is he one of our own, but he’s the best piece of business we did last Summer – sold for 25m and came home on a free.
Silva seems to be the perfect manager to oversee Sess’s rehabilitation. Let’s hope Josh King learns the lesson that the grass is not always greener at the so called ‘bigger’ clubs. Harvey Elliot is the exception rather than the rule.
