Captain Chris Donnell praised his side’s spirit after Fulham’s under 21s came from a goal down to beat Sporting CP and reach the semi-finals of the Premier League International Cup.

The midfielder, who played a prominent role in the comeback, told FFCTV:

“I think it was good. Obviously, playing at the stadium, you want a good result. It was tough went they went 1-0 up, but it was a good fight in the second half and I think we were the better team for the majority of the game.

Conceding that early on an occasion like this, it dampens the mood a little bit. You want to come and get a good result here. I think in the first half we were a little bit slow. A bit slow on the ball, trying to force a few passes, and a bit slow on the press. But we did well in the second half especially and it is good to go into the next round.

I think it just shows the team spirit. Everybody that comes on is ready to play. Chibby had played really well in the first half and unbelievable [at Brighton] on Friday, but he’s had a yellow card in the first half, he’s had to come off. Imani coming on and scoring as well shows that everybody’s ready to play when they are called on.

You want to win everything – even if the league standing doesn’t really matter because it goes into finals, you want to show that you were the best team over the course of the season. This is also a big competition – you want to show that you are one of the best international teams. So, there’s a lot to play for a lot to be excited about.”
