Marco Silva will ask for an explanation from Professional Game Match Officials Limited after insisting that referee Robert Jones’ display was below the required standard during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace.
The Fulham head coach referenced the disenchantment of Craven Cottage at Jones’ first half decision making – especially how the referee allowed the Eagles to make a number of robust challenges – during his press conference at Motspur Park this morning.
“We as a club do that always but we are going to do it. I’m the first to criticise ourselves so we need to all the things on the pitch [to be right]. I can congratulate Palace but I can’t for the referee at all, it’s clear it [Jones’ performance] was not at the standard [required]. Many decisions from the referee took the concentration from the players and their focus because in the 50-50 moments they were never in our favour.
The performance from the referee was not at the level [necessary in the Premier League]. It was not a good performance from us, not a good performance from the referee as well and all these details make it more difficult for us.”
Silva set that tomorrow night’s trip to rejuvenated Wolverhampton Wanderers offers a swift opportunity for the Whites to put things right immediately.
“The best thing is to play quickly again and it’s what is going to happen. It’s a tough game away from home and away we’ve been really competitive, we’ve been able to have good performances and make the life of any team difficult and we want to do the same thing and react from the last result.”
Don’t remember a worse performance from a referee. At times he looked like he lost control. Disgraceful tackles from Palace, unpunished encouraging them to do more of the same. Never seen a reaction like that at the Cottage even the Riverside were insenced.
Having said that we were awful. After that disgusting “tackle” on ESR he disappeared from the game and should have been withdrawn.
