An emotional Ryan Sessegnon paid tribute to the Fulham fans after scoring his first goal of his second stint with the Whites in tonight’s 2-1 win at Wolverhampton.
The academy graduate scored within 58 seconds of kick-off to give Marco Silva’s side a dream start on their way to a first league win at Molineux in forty years. Sessegnon told FFCTV after the final whistle:
“I knew it was going to be that type of game where if AP had the ball, I was going to run in behind. I didn’t expect it to be that early in the game, but I’m always ready and I’m happy I took that chance. Before the game, we were doing finishing in the front of the away fans and I was pretty happy with my strikes and I’ve been practising that finish in training so I was confident but very happy to put it away.
I’m the same. When I’m one-on-one with the keeper, I’m very confident and I was happy to put it away. I have to give credit to Jedi, he’s been very good this season, probably been one of our best players. I just knew when I was starting this game that I had to make an impact. I’m happy I did, but it is most important that we got the three points.
Each game the fans are with us. The fans helped us during this game. I love when the fans sing my name. I love it. I feel very proud obviously coming from the academy. Obviously, this is my club. I love the club.”
There’s no arguing that he took his goal brilliantly, finishing with aplomb and it has to be said that, had Robinson found himself in a similar position, not many fans would have backed him to put it away so well. That fact was confirmed when, shortly after being sent on from the bench, Robinson tripped over his own feet when put clear on the left.
When I saw the team selection, I was taken aback at first. Silva had said that having another game so soon after the awful performance against Palace, would be the best thing for us so it was surprising that four of the under performers from Saturday were then denied the chance to make amends.
Then I thought he must be resting them with the FA Cup in mind, perhaps, giving priority to the cup over the league.
Now, I’m just confused for the reason but, whatever it was, it worked.
Confused of South Devon, how is it they fluctuate from one game to the next? How I wish they could be consistent, at the good end not the bad? This is not good for an old chaps health!
Anyway, as good a win as the Palace game was bad. When all is said and done the results over the past month have been excellent. One feels a little churlish to complain about any lapse.
Well done all and delighted for Ryan, hope that’s a turning point for him personally, it’s been quite a tough few seasons for him.
I think Silva has been reading this and other forums and realised that he should change up things with personnel and tactics. Well, he did and got the required response.
What a calm take by Ryan and great chip by Rodrigo, both being fed by great build up play, good to see.
Man Utd., next and we will see if Silva can pull another rabbit out of the hat.
I’ve been waiting for Sess to start a game and he didn’t let me down he is not a defender and has to start as a winger or midfielder, his control of the ball is something Robinson hasn’t got especially when he trips over his own feet. I thought Periera had a good game also Adama and Diop.
I thought it was a masterstroke to put Sess and Cuenca in. When Sess moved forward Cuenca was always there as cover. Great night Fulham!!!
