Fulham have turned down an offer worth £16.5m from Palmeiras for their Brazilian attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira, according to BBC Sport.
The former Manchester United midfielder has been a key player under Marco Silva since he left Old Trafford for the Whites in the summer of 2022. He has been the subject of frenzied transfer speculation since giving an interview expressing an interest in a move away from Craven Cottage in November and Palmeiras are pushing to make him their marquee signing ahead of the new Brazilian domestic season.
But Fulham are not willing to sell Pereira during the January transfer window as Silva sees the Brazilian playmaker, who has started fifteen of the nineteen league games this term, as crucial in the Cottagers’ push for Europe as they sit eighth in the table at the turn of the year. The BBC report also says that Marseille, whose manager Roberto di Zerbi is known to be an admirer of the midfielder, have cooled their interest in Pereira.
I think its time the so called fans got off his back and gave him some breathing space so he can get his confidence back and show what he can do. The sort of criticism he gets week after week, including being booed for heavens sake by these so called fans, is obviously affecting his game. Give the guy a cheer on Sunday when his name is announced. Lots of players of clubs of our size probably dream of playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid, it doesn’t mean they don’t want to do their best for the club they play for, or even expect to ever do so.
Yeah, we’ll said.
I’m sorry to disagree William but the fans are the most important part of any football club. Players, managers and even owners are transient, only fans are a constant. On that basis of course fan’s opinions should be voiced and taken into account when decisions are made. There is little loyalty outside of the fan base, all other parties are as often as not driven by financial gain and self interest.
I for one therefore reserve the right to express an opinion, praising a player or as in this case criticising one. I, along with many others believe that Pereira contributes very little and the team would do better without him. By his own admission he dreams of pastures new, therefore there is no reason as I can see to hang onto him. It’s up to him to prove me wrong., which I hope he does. Doubt it, but we can all hope. By the way I think the ‘so called fans’ comment is neither fair nor accurate.
Should have said that the booing is unacceptable.
He’s not as good as he thinks he is, or as bad as some fans say he is. But most games he works hard for team booing a player is unacceptable and does not help the team. Criticism from media and fans is now away of life everyone has a view sure most players take with pinch of salt. I rate our manager and if he feels what ever player doing good job for club ok with me prove is there to see
I for one totally agree with William, Periera has done a job for us since he joined our club. The progress shown by our team, season after season is also because of his contribution. I can never understand what kind of supporters boo their own players.
