Fulham captain Tom Cairney feels the club can build on the success Marco Silva has delivered in his first three and a half years at Craven Cottage.
The Scottish midfielder, soon to celebrate ten years with the club, told the club’s official website that he always felt the Whites could establish themselves in the top flight again.
“It does feel like ten years! The highlight has to be the first promotion. That first time at Wembley, lifting the trophy and scoring, it was incredible. It was obviously up and down in the Premier League, but I remember saying, ‘if we just stay [up] one year, then I really feel like Fulham can build’.
“We’ve got ambitious owners, an incredible location to play in in London, it’s an attractive club, we always try to play football the right way and Marco’s achieved that right now. The dressing room is a good place to be. There’s a buzz and I feel like if the dressing rooms close then on the pitch, when things get bad or good, you come together, and that’s what we’ve had.”
The experienced playmaker has urged his team-mates to concentrate on maintaining Fulham’s fine form rather than fretting over the arrival of Graham Potter at the London Stadium.
“I know sometimes it can bite you a little bit because the players are galvanised, they’re playing for a new manager.
It’s like everyone has a clean slate and it’s sometimes difficult, but we’ve got to concentrate on ourselves. We’re ninth in the league and we’re looking to have a strong second half of the season.”
