Marco Silva has insisted that Andreas Pereira remains part of his plans at Fulham – despite leaving him out for this afternoon’s draw at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian international angrily claimed on Instagram that an interview he gave to Premier League Brasil earlier this week had been mistranslated maliciously – with quotes appearing to suggest that he saw his future away from Craven Cottage. Speaking after the 1-1 draw at Spurs, Silva said that the midfielder wasn’t dropped because of that interview but as a tactical ploy for the London derby.
Silva said:
“I didn’t read the interview. I know some of the topics of the interview. I didn’t read the interview because for me to read something from my players I need to be sure that they did it. I didn’t read it but I know what you are talking about. The thing that I want to tell you is that Andreas is going to be back stronger and is going to be with us to help the team like he has been.
He’s going to be the important player that he’s been since he our joined the football club. It’s nothing related to the interview. I don’t make decisions (based) on interviews. My decisions are never going to be related to newspapers or something. My decisions come from a daily basis with the players, (training) sessions, games and nothing more.”
Silva suggested that Pereira could be back in Fulham’s starting line-up as soon as Thursday, when the Whites will face Brighton and Hove Albion without the suspended Sasa Lukic and Tom Cairney.
“Let’s hope we can have Andreas ready again next week in the way I know he can play. We need everybody in this moment of the season.”
So if he was dropped for tactical reasons. Did those tactics exclude sitting on the bench and being used if required as Silva could decided to change it around? I don’t buy that one. That excuse is a load of bull.
It showed today that the team functions as well if not better without him and as a plus Lukic’s delivery was better.
It was surely a slap on the wrist. Pereira apologised publicly and that should be that. With a game on Thursday and another one coming up on Sunday we surely need all hands on deck. Hopefully this stupid incident will serve as a wake up call for this guy who thinks of himself as the next great thing. Playing for Brazil has gone up to his head. Performance wise he is letting the team down, Periera needs to put in decent performance otherwise he can leave come January. However, before that we cannot afford to lose him.
Will definitely need him alongside Berge on Thursday. Would be good to see King given a few minutes too.
This entire episode is baffling and, for Fulham fans, very sad.
After twelve games, it finally felt that the penny had dropped for Silva.
His experiment of a goalkeeper/captain was finally abandoned and the one player who has been consistently letting the team down was finally excluded.
Joy!
Then came the Pereira statement re his squad omission and things took on a murkier tone.
Whether, as he claims, his words were twisted and taken out of context is not really important because, although not mentioning any particular teams, Pereira made similar comments in the summer.
He has an inflated opinion of his ability and, his reaction to the Forest penalty incident back in September was a clear indication as to his spoilt brat tendencies.
I am trying to make sense of who this guy is exactly but anybody who feels it necessary to change his hair style/colour on a weekly basis has obvious insecurities.
In addition, as revealed in a Fulham video, a year or so ago, anybody who has a couple of full size Space Invader machines in his living room, as well as a lack of class, has the mental capacity of a 9 year old.
There’s a reason why, when he was at United, he spent FOUR seasons out on loan to different clubs and why, at his last loan club, the fans wanted to lynch him.
That is because he is just not as good as he thinks he is. He has undoubted ball skills and the stamina of a marathon runner, covering acres each game. But his indecisiveness at key moments of a game and his set ball skills that have been declining steadily have caused the fanbase to demand that he be dropped.
This would seem like the perfect opportunity for the man who has championed him, DESPITE his faults, to take action.
Instead, Silva gives us a pathetic reason for dropping Pereira, tells us it’s a “technical decision”, insists that the guy is an important member of the squad and we will need him against Brighton with Cairney and Lukic out. To add insult to injury, he expects us to believe that he, himself, hadn’t actually read the Pereira comments.
And THAT is what’s sad about the whole affair.
Hopefully those “plans” include raising money from his sale to recruit a proper replacement for him.
This could be a good time to blood Josh King.
Find myself again agreeing with Charles again, spot on summation, although not quite sure of the psychological assessment of the hair changes and gaming machines. Hahaha, remember footballers are not often intellectually to the forefront and err at the youthful end of the spectrum. But everything you say is how I personally interpret the situation. I truly believe he brings very few, if any pluses to the team, and they are better without him.
Like Nick I would really like to see Josh King given a proper run not a 10 min cameo. Saw him in the under 21 highlights and he has real skills which should be developed with game time.
We need Perreira with the suspensions….but….if we didn’t have them he shouldn’t and wouldn’t be playing. Silva has clearly diminished the idiotic nature of Pereira’s comments. It feels like he’s done that because we’re thin on the ground, which may be justified. It’s all just further evidence of the corrosive attitude of a player who gets too big for his boots.
But lets talk football. He’s not good enough. It mystifies me how he gets in the Brazil squad. His goal scoring toilet, his ability to get pushed off the ball, tackling, set pieces etc etc. Hes just not a great player. I found it interesting that when you strip out set pieces (by which we’ve scored virtually nothing) he has the 6th highest chances created in our team, he has the 3rd highest pass INcompletion in the team. For what he is supposed to be it’s not good enough. Given we’re now so thin on the ground he’ll play on Thursday. I’d like to think he’ll want to put in a good performance given all that’s happened, but, sadly I don’t think m he’s capable of delivering more than we’ve seen. Sooner he’s sold the better.
Unfortunately we need him for the next game and if we want to sell him on January or in the summer, we cannot devaluate a player in the press. Read between the lines…
we will need him a least on the bench on Thursday. We could Switch Iwobi to midfield and play either Wilson or Traore on the wing. I concur with other comments at least give King at least 20 minutes from the bench. An ideal time to do it
Pity we need him on Thursday. The midfield on Sunday, ESR, Sasha,Berge and Iwobi, was formidable and run the game. Pereira had one good season when Mitro made him look good. Now we can see what he is. All the things Dave said. Add into the mix Harrison Reed is injured, looks like he will have to play.
Looks like Brazil have also got the message. They could only draw with Uruguay and they left him on the subs bench.
