Harry Wilson admitted luck was on his side after he came off the bench to score a stoppage time brace to beat Brentford and lift Fulham into the top half of the Premier League table last night.
The Welsh international cancelled out Vitaly Janelt’s thunderbolt with a deft flick over Mark Flekeen in the second minute of added time before heading in a winner off his shoulder in the 97th minute – sparking wild scenes of jubilation at the Hammersmith End.
Wilson told Sky Sports after the final whistle:
“It was an amazing feeling to come on and get the two goals to win the game. We deserved it, we kept them pinned in throughout. The manager told me to find space and when the ball gets wide try and get in the box and that’s what I did.Â
They both went in but not how I would have wanted! The first one I just helped it on to the back post and the second one was more lucky. I was trying to head it into the other corner but it hit my shoulder and went in! The atmosphere was great all night and that was up there with the best I’ve heard it.”
Harry Wilson underrated and underused . One of the few upfront that has a final finish . Let’s face it – it’s all huff and puff . Fulham full of possession and passing around nicely but can’t get a goal . ESR is lifeless – at this rate he is going to be the worst purchase in Fulham history.
Greg – I think that’s a bit harsh on ESR….. I thought he had a good game.
As far as Fulham’s worst purchase in history – you have to go some to beat Kostas Mitroglou. Remember him?
Wilson has to start on Saturday he is the only one who finds space and can finish with goals, Jiminez was invisible and Periera needs to vary his corner kicks as they are too easy to defend, I hope Lukic comes back soon, Nelson had a great game and should start on Saturday also. I still think Marco should make his substitute’s earlier to freshen things up, but I am still over the moon with the result as it looked like it was going to be more points dropped. COYW.
I agree with JB above. I was pleased to see Nelson who gave it a go in the first half; great inter-play down the left with ESR towards my Putney end. Jedi had a great game, I thought, finishing it off in the final minute. Good to see Harry, and the boys, all going flat out in the 98th minute. You wonder sometimes if the Press saw the same match.
Let’s hope Lukic can return. With a bit more last-minute defending, we could have 18 or 19 points by now. Some tough games coming soon, but our record and ‘penalty box touches’ speaks for itself.
As for Huff and Puff, Greg, it’s what the game’s made of! Look at Man City, online, see their total penalty-box-touches, sometimes 50 or even 60 touches, per match, to score just two goals. It’s not all KDB wonder-strikes in The Prem. December will be crucial. I haven’t cheered so much since Maine Road: 1975. COYW.
