First half goals from Lemar Gordon and Terrell Works guided Fulham’s under 21s to their first win of the new National League Cup competition as the young Whites beat Wealdstone 2-0 at Grosvenor Vale last night.

Hayden Mullins’ side made a much sharper start than in the first group game at Maidenhead with Stones goalkeeper Jacob Adams making a couple of early saves to keep out efforts from Callum Osmand and Kristian Sekularac. The National League outfit had some opportunities of their own as Micah Obiero lashed over the bar when a ball broke kindly to him in the box before Sam Ashford tried to find the top corner of Alfie McNally’s goal but sent an effort over the bar.

Fulham took the lead two minutes before the break when Gordon drilled a fine finish into the corner of the Wealdstone net having been teed up by Osmand. The Whites went into the interval with a two-goal cushion when Works reacted quickly after seeing his penalty saved by Adams to convert the rebound.

Adams made two superb stops to keep out attempts from Aaron Loupalo-Bi and Osmand before Wealdstone’s trialist was denied by an excellent save by McNally. This assured display was a big improvement on the last month and the young Whites will hope to add a further three points in their final group fixture at Woking in December.
