Fulham winger Harry Wilson scored one and made another but Wales were left ruing a second collapse as Iceland came back from 2-0 down to claim a point in their Nations’ League Group B4 clash in Reykjavik this evening.
Wilson looked set to gave the Welsh an early lead when he beat the goalkeeper with a shot on the run only for his effort to be cleared off the line – but Tottenham Hotspur’s Brennan Johnson followed up to put the visitors ahead. Wilson then doubled the advantage midway through the first period when he raced onto a great ball from former Fulham team-mate Neco Williams and produced a fabulous finish.
But Iceland were much the better side after the break and clawed their way back into the contest. Substitute Logi Tomasson halved their arrears with twenty minutes remaining when he slotted home from the edge of the box before forcing an error from Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward, who bundled his attempted cross into his own net. That drama meant that an end-to-end encounter finished all square.
