Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic looks to have suffered a serious shoulder injury during Serbia’s 2-0 win over Switzerland this weekend.
Lukic, who has started all seven of Fulham’s Premier League fixtures this season, was replaced eight minutes after half time having injured his shoulder during another accomplished performance. The Serbian national team have confirmed in a statement that the former Torino midfielder ‘injured his ‘right acromioclavicular joint’ and will not be in contention to face Spain on Tuesday after detailed medical examinations.
Lukic will instead return to Fulham for further analysis and treatment but is likely to spend a significant spell on the sidelines. The news is a setback for Marco Silva but may present an opportunity for summer signing Sander Berge, who made his first league start before the international break in the narrow defeat at Manchester City, to press his claims for a regular spot in the Fulham midfield.
Big big loss, Lukic was by far our most consistent performer this season. I hope his forced absence is a short one.
He initially attempted to continue, so perhaps it’s not too bad. The bad injuries are normally instantly evident the player needs to come off immediately.
Bad news been fantastic this season , because of to much boring international football. Had my way it would be banned, it’s a cosmopolitan world now. And getting silly when some players can have up to four countries to choose from . We TV and champions league we se all the best players anyway
It is a blow but we need either Berger or Reed to step up and fill the void. We do have options even if our first choice no 6 is missing.
This is what pxxxys me off these international breaks are a waste of time the season started in August and we have been to the Cottage three times It’s all about money Hopefully Lukic will be back soon
In this instance I agree totally, what an unnecessary and pointless competition this is. Really bad news Lukic has been excellent this season.
