Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic looks to have suffered a serious shoulder injury during Serbia’s 2-0 win over Switzerland this weekend.

Lukic, who has started all seven of Fulham’s Premier League fixtures this season, was replaced eight minutes after half time having injured his shoulder during another accomplished performance. The Serbian national team have confirmed in a statement that the former Torino midfielder ‘injured his ‘right acromioclavicular joint’ and will not be in contention to face Spain on Tuesday after detailed medical examinations.

Lukic will instead return to Fulham for further analysis and treatment but is likely to spend a significant spell on the sidelines. The news is a setback for Marco Silva but may present an opportunity for summer signing Sander Berge, who made his first league start before the international break in the narrow defeat at Manchester City, to press his claims for a regular spot in the Fulham midfield.
