Antonee Robinson admitted Fulham let a great opportunity to get a positive result at Manchester United slip away in the final minutes at Old Trafford last night.
Speaking to NBC Sports after the final whistle, the American full back said:
“The last ten minutes were really, really frantic. Both teams were going at it, trying to win. It got sloppy at times, both teams were giving it away and they’re a very good counter attacking team, we’ve seen it time and time again when playing them that they are capable of getting the goal in the last few minutes and, unfortunately, we’ve let one slip.
I feel really positive [about Fulham’s prospects for the season]. We’re obviously made some additions and we’re looking to make more. The lads have gelled really well, the spirit’s been really good. We’ve had a pretty good pre-season, it’s about getting that match fitness. Old Trafford away, first game of the season, is never going to be easy and, unfortunately, we’ve not got the points but it’s a long old season. We can’t let this diminish what we think is going to be a good season for us.
The depressing part is we all saw Man United beat us late 3 times, on the break, in ‘that cup tie’ and at the Cottage (twice). So what was Tom C thinking when he dived in on Bruno Fernandes when he had nowhere to go, back to goal, out on the touchline. What happens next?
We concede late, on the break, to lose to Man Utd. Last verse, same as the first. We have to learn, have to get smarter.
