Fulham have confirmed the signing of Norwegian international Sande Berge from Burnley in a deal believed to be worth an initial £20m. The fee could rise to £25m with £5m in add-ons.
The 26 year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, which Fulham have an option to extend by a further twelve months.
Berge, signed after three weeks of negotiations between the Clarets and the Whites, told FFCTV:
“It feels fantastic. It’s been a little bit back and forth the last few weeks, but I’m finally sitting here in the shirt in this beautiful stadium, knowing that my future is here, which feels great. Fulham has always been a team that excited me. I’ve played them both in the Championship and Premier League, and it’s fantastic how they play, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1. The DNA of the club is to be dominant, aggressive, front-footed, and play nice football, and I think that suits me.”
Berge began his professional career with Asker in his native Norway but moved to Vålerenga, where he scored on his debut aged seventeen and was named the Norwegian top flight’s young player of the year. He was signed by Genk in January 2017 and helped his new side reach the Europa League quarter finals before winning the Belgian title in 2019 and playing in the Champions’ League the following year.
He became Sheffield United’s record signing in January 2019 and helped the Blades record a remarkable ninth place finish in the Premier League. Berge missed four months of the following season with a leg injury as United went down but help the Blades bounce back by winning automatic promotion in 2022/23, when they also reached the FA Cup semi-finals.
A move to Burnley followed and the bombastic Berge played in 37 of their 38 games, including an impressive win at Craven Cottage, winning the club’s player of the season and players’ player of the season awards. He has won 46 caps for Norway and will where the number sixteen shirt for Fulham.
Two words to say about this deal ‘Brilliant signing’ and 2 fingers to ManU, you lost out getting rid of that Scottish donkey and we beat you to Berge’s signature. Berge is a better defensive midfielder than McTominay.
It’s starting to look good…. Now do the same with Andersen and get a proper left winger!! And if we can get a decent striker, this could be the beginning of a amazing adventure!! COYW
Brilliant signing, Sander looks like a Fulham type of player and will help us a lot this season. He is consistent, works hard and just gets the job done without all the ego….. welcome Sander!!!
Good signing another one out of the blue glad we never signed McTominay Berge is a proven PL Player and we took him of the Media’s favorite team I hope their annoyed all looking good for the Season with Andersen as well maybe one or two more
Hope is as good as our previous Norwegian.
Wow…after the inertia a frenzy of fine acquisitions.
The quality of the defense and midfield has been not just restored but improved.
Nketiah, Duran, Muniz, Jimenez…who’s the new Mitro?
Absolutely delighted with this signing.
Awesome! I’m excited!
He gives a smooth and intelligent account of himself in his interview on the Official site, I recommend watching. I sense he’ll do well here.
A great signing now get Andersen and a couple more and we can push for a top 6 finish COYW.
