Fulham have switched their attentions to signing Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah after admitting defeat in their pursuit of French under-21 international Rayan Cherki, according to the Athletic.
Cherki has turned down the chance to move to Craven Cottage despite the two clubs agreeing a fee believed to be in the region of £12m for his services and the Whites, who are still eager to add a winger to Marco Silva’s squad before Friday’s transfer deadline, are now considering making a formal offer for Ghanaian international Nuamah, who has also attracted interest from a clutch of Premier League sides including Everton, Nottingham Forest and Southampton.
The 20 year-old, who shot to prominence with the Right to Dream academy in his homeland, scored three goals in 33 games on loan at Lyon from Belgian outfit RWD Molenbeek last season and signed permanently for the Ligue 1 outfit for around £24m last month. Lyon are needing to sell several players this month to ease their crippling financial worries – and reportedly value Nuamah at £25m.
The exciting youngster, who was part of the Lyon side that reached the final of the Coupe de France last season, has twelve senior caps for Ghana, scoring three goals. Nuamah was named the Danish Superliga player of the season in 2023 and scored twenty goals in 49 games at Nordsjælland.
I think this is unintended consequence of Textor’s multi-club ownership. Lyon trying to flog a player for more than what they bought him for after just a year. I’d hope Fulham’s scouting and recruitment system has evolved further than being pointed to a club’s cast offs after they were rebuffed by one of their starlets.
As a Dane who witnessed this boy set the Superliga a blaze I Can say, that this would be an amazing signing.
