Portsmouth have signed Fulham centre back Ibane Bowat for an initial £500,000.
The Scottish under-21 international has signed an initial three-year contract at Fratton Park bringing to an end his four years at Fulham. Bowat’s introduction to life at Motspur Park came through the former Portsmouth winger Steve Wigley, as he helped the young Whites win the U18 Premier League South in his first season.
Bowat was part of the Fulham under-23 side that won the PL2 Second Division before enjoying excellent loan spells with Den Bosch and TSV Hartberg. He helped the Austrian outfit finish fifth in the top flight last term and could make his Pompey debut against Sunderland tomorrow.
£500K what’s the point of the academy?
Comment *I think prem clubs have to have them.
Not all players in the academy will go on to play in the Premiership. It’s great to sell some of the players to other clubs as £500k in the real world is a lot of money and will help the academy to becoming self-financing.
