Aston Villa have rejected Fulham’s bid for central defender Diego Carlos, according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Villa are willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian, who they left out of their most recent pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao earlier this week. The Daily Telegraph reported last night that Fulham have stepped up their pursuit of the 31 year-old, who has two years left on his contract at Villa Park, after making an initial enquiry earlier this month.

There is no detail on the fee that Villa are seeking for Carlos but their refusal is not thought to be the end of the matter with discussions continuing between the two clubs. Fulham, who added Jorge Cuenca to their defensive ranks at the start of the month, are still in the market for another central defender after Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream left Craven Cottage on free transfers.
