Bobby De Cordova-Reid has left Fulham after five years of service and signed for Leicester City on a free transfer, the club have confirmed this afternoon.
The 31 year-old made 209 appearances for the Whites, scoring 32 goals. He becomes Steve Cooper’s first official signing at the King Power Stadium having rejected Fulham’s offer of a new contract at Craven Cottage. De Cordova-Reid finished last season as Fulham’s second top scorer – finding the net seven times in 41 appearances.
De Cordova-Reid’s contribution to Fulham’s recent revival under Marco Silva cannot, however, be measured in mere numbers alone. He was willing to deputise in a number of positions, including several times during the club’s first season back in the top flight at right back. That epitomised his endeavour and commitment that made him a key part of two promotion-winning sides and his unassuming role as part of the squad’s leadership group was arguably just as important.
Best of luck at Leicester, Bobby.
Sad to see him go – along with many other names heading for the exit this summer.
Bobby has been a great servant to the club but I’m not too disappointed he’s leaving. If we’re to move forward and firmly establish ourselves as a top 10 club, we need quality signings and some may not like me saying it but better players than Bobby.
Completely agree with Phil. By my reckoning 12 players have left in this window. Replacements 0. When the last one leaves can you shut the door behind you. TK must have really hot hands from the time he spends sitting on them.
Best of luck, but to be totally honest, it was time to let him go in order to progress to the next level
12 players have left in this window???
Guessing maths aren’t your greatest subject, C.B.
Assuming Willian and Palhinha are included in your list of departees, though nothing has yet been confirmed, Decordova Reid would make 3. Fodo Balle-Toure would make 4
Who are the others in your 12?
Bottom line, Palhinha will be a miss but, at least, we squeezed an additional season out of him
Willian -I, for one, am sick of his summer antics where we wait to see if he will extend his stay or not. Last summer was bad enough but to repeat this again, this summer, is a joke. If he doesn’t want to be at the club, he should just bugger off. He has undoubted ability but is really at the tail end of his career and “turns up”, at best, only a dozen or so times per year.
Decordova Reid has been sub-quality for so long that he is not a loss. Just because he has shown a willingness to play in several different positions, it doesn’t mean that we should be grateful, because he has underperformed in most of them.
Towards the back end of the season when, unbelievably, with all the REAL wingers we had sitting on the bench, Marco Silva insisted on picking Decordova Reid on the wing, and we had to suffer through his ineptness time after time, I was cured of any lingering “Bobby” loyalty forever.
I feel sorry for any Leicester City fans who think they have made an astute signing and, for me, his deaprture is the highlight of my summer.
Having said all that, I DO agree that the Khans need to support Silva and get busy, for once, signing QUALITY players EARLY because, if they don’t, I can’t see Marco hanging around after this season.
Damn! I forgot about Rodak. Great keeper. Too good to be sat on the bench.
Maths aren’t my greatest subject, I guess.
As the saying goes: there are only THREE types of people. Those who can do maths. And those who can’t!
Totally agree with all the above…losing BDR ‘s ability to fill a number of roles will be missed i’m sure.
…but what’s so striking about the above comments is the assertion that we’re building a top 10 team…of course we all crave that as much as Marco.
If that process is underway then wonderful…
Right now though we’ve never replaced our top 10 striker and have just lost a top 10 defensive midfielder…Muniz isn’t Mitrovic yet and Lukic can’t replace Joao.
We still have a top ten goalkeeper and full backs and maybe a few others…no back ups though and a lot of holes to fill.
Are we on the brink of a flurry of signings, top 10 potential players who will have time to be ready to go?…above all we have a top 10 coach for the moment.
In response to Charles, my list of 12 players out is:
B.D.R. Willian, Joao, Rodak, Tosin, Tyrese Francois, Kangolo, D’Auria-Henry, George Okkas, Avenell, Bogle-Campbell and Conway. TOTAL 12
