ITV football presenter Mark Pougatch has penned a lovely piece about his experiences of Craven Cottage – which is where his journalism journey began as a 23 year-old radio reporter when Alan Dicks’ Fulham lost to Birmingham City in August 1991.
There plenty of evocative phrases, even if there is one error when it is suggested that it was Andy Thomas who scored the winner against Derby at home for Malcolm Macdonald’s men in that ill-fated 1982/83 promotion push (Cliffie Carr got the goal), but the concluding sentence sums it all up:
“But, as ever with Fulham, it was always about much more than just goals, results and football.”
Spot on.
