Bobby De Cordova-Reid admitted Fulham were well below par at Bramall Lane this afternoon before his 25 yard strike put the Whites on path to a comeback at Sheffield United.
The Blades look set for a rare home win when a brace from Ben Brereton Diaz and a poacher’s finish by Oli McBurnie gave them a 3-1 lead, but De Cordova-Reid drove home from distance shortly after being sent on by Marco Silva before Rodrigo Muniz rescued a point with a wonderful overhead kick.
The Jamaican international told FFCTV after the final whistle:
“We put ourselves in a position where we were chasing the game and it was probably down to our own mistakes and we all understand that. It was obviously good character from the lads to come and change it, get the draw and probably should have won it at the end of the day. It was probably our own doing, we need to be better, we’ll learn from that and go again.
As players coming off the bench, you have to try and change the game and affect it. That’s what we did. We got the goal back, which obviously gave us belief and they sat back deeper. It was a chance for us to keep pushing. The third goal from Rodrigo was unbelievable. He does it in training. We know he’s capable of doing that acrobatic finish, it is unbelievable from him and we’ll all very happy for him. We pushed, we pushed, it wasn’t to be. But we put ourselves in that position – we should have been clear, we should have won the game.
The lads can be proud of the way we came back, but we shouldn’t have been in that position. We’ve got to put it right on Tuesday. Obviously, they’re fighting for something, they’re going to be up for it – we’ve got to play well to get something out of it. We’ll be ready as well.
It’a all very well saying”we will lean from that and go again”, but we don’t. Fulham make the same type of mistakes each game. Failure to take the chances and the failure to keep concentration when defending. We need a strong, on field captain to organise the defense and Bassey seems to be that man.
Bit overshadowed by Muniz’s superb finish but Bobby Reid’s goal was brilliantly executed. What’s more it changed the whole momentum of the game.
Must admit we were lucky to get the VAR decision in our favour on their fourth ‘goal’. Don’t think we would have been too happy if it had been made against us.
Was a great finish by Bobby – who remains a really underrated member of our squad for me.
