Fulham under-21 winger Kristian Šekularac is ‘excited’ by the prospect of playing Wycombe Wanderers in the Football League Trophy second round this evening.

Hayden Mullins’ side have reached the knockout phase of the competition for the first time in the club’s history after gaining impressive draws at Portsmouth and Leyton Orient before Aaron Loupalo-Bi’s winner at Gillingham meant the young Whites topped their group. The under-21s made it three wins in a row when they returned to league action after the international break as well – beating Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 at Motspur Park.

Swiss youth international Šekularac knows that the Chairboys, who topped their group having won all three of their matches, will prove tough opponents. He told the club’s official website:

“We’re really excited for it because it’ll be a great challenge for us and a great opportunity to show who we are as a team. We’re expecting them to play very direct and they’ll look to make it a physical battle, so we’ll have to be at the top of our game to make sure that we play our style of football and not theirs.

Winning always helps when it comes to confidence, but it’s important that we remember why we’re winning games and that is through the work we’re putting in with the coaching staff every day. We’ve got to make sure we keep doing that.

I’ve really enjoyed playing in this tournament. It’s a really good test for us as a team to see where we’re at compared to League One sides and hopefully tomorrow we will show once again that we’re at the level.”
