Fulham under-21 winger Ollie O’Neill is looking forward to tackling League One Leyton Orient in the Football League Trophy at Brisbane Road this evening.
The Irish under-21 international, who spent time on loan with League of Ireland side Derry City last season, returned to action at Motspur Park with a bang over the past fortnight. He scored in the under-21’s thrashing of Southampton to maintain Hayden Mullins’ 100% league start since taking over as head coach and rounded off the scoring as the Whites put six past Brentford B at Woking in the Premier League Cup on Friday night.
Where some category one academies consider the Trophy an inconvenience, O’Neill is buzzing at the prospect of taking on EFL opposition in east London this evening. He told Fulham’s official website:
“It’s a brilliant competition and one of the highlights of the season for us. They’re all definitely a great set of games to be involved in. Leyton Orient will be a decent side, they got promoted last year and so they’re on the crest of a wave. It’ll certainly be a tough game and a good challenge for us.
The highly-rated prospect is also keen to keep his fine form going having overcome injury issues during the close season.
I feel pretty good at the moment and I think I know what I produce at this level consistently over a period of time, so it’s just about maintaining that and keeping the goals coming until it’s impossible to deny.”
Tickets for tonight’s fixture – priced at £10 for adult, £5 for seniors and £1 for juniors – are available to purchase via the Orient website and Fulham fans can also pay on the gate at Brisbane Road.
