Roy Hodgson will take charge of Crystal Palace against his former club Fulham having overseen training today after recovering from the illness that meant he was unable to oversee the Eagles’ defeat at Aston Villa last weekend.
The ex-England manager, aged 76, had to leave first-team affairs in the hands of Paddy McCarthy and the former Fulham midfielder Ray Lewington after feeling unwell before the trip to Villa Park last Saturday, but Palace issued a brief statement earlier this afternoon confirming that Hodgson had taken training this morning and would be back in the dugout for the visit of the Whites to Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Hodgson and Lewington will be sure of a rapturous reception from the travelling support in recognition of their remarkable three-year spell at Craven Cottage that saw Fulham pull off the Great Escape, finish seventh in the Premier League – still the club’s highest-ever league placing – and reach the final of the Europa League in 2010.
