João Palhinha’s proposed move to Bayern Munich is off after Fulham failed to find a replacement before the German transfer deadline.
The Portuguese international midfielder completed an extensive medical in Munich – but the deal taking him to the Bundesliga champions was always contingent on the Whites finding a replacement. Fulham failed with attempts to sign Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat, Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.
The worry for Fulham will be whether a Premier League side tests their resolve to hang onto the tenacious tackler in the last six hours of the domestic transfer window.
Lets hope he comes back yo Fulham I have no sympathy with Bayern Munich as they left it so late, I hope he buckles down again at our club even if he leaves in January, that will give us more time to find a decent replacement, unless another club comes in for him before 11 o’clock tonight
Going to have to manage him carefully and can see him missing tomorrow’s game.
Quite simply, Bayern left it way too late for us to find a replacement with Sasa and TC injured we had no choice.
Bayern will be in later stages of CL in Jan. Promise to look at it again then as a compromise. Hopefully 25 plus points on the board by then.
Maybe clever by Tony Khan though???
I don’t imagine anyone else will be able to put an acceptable deal together for him today now. But it’ll be a different story in January. Unless he goes completely off the boil, someone will take him off us.
As far as today is concerned, the worry now is that we’ve not barely anything in the other three or four positions we needed strengthening because we’ve been too distracted looking for replacements in central midfield.
Sounds like Mbabu is going out on loan, but we’ve made no progress with a new left back, besides Iwobi there’s no news on more wingers, and nothing at all on Fullkrug or any other centre forwards.
Fullkrug would have been a perfect replacement for Mitrovic as very similar, but he’s gone to Dortmund.
We had no choice considering the late bid by Bayern.
There’s not a lot of quality holding midfielder’s on the market at the moment and to find a suitable replacement was always going to be difficult.
Hats off to the Khan’s in keeping their key player at the club. Perhaps it’s not all about the money.
Good news for us, not so good for Joao. Doesn’t strike me as a sulker, unlike some one recently departed I could mention. Let’s make him feel welcome when he next plays.
A move in January seems like a fair deal for all concerned.
I just hope this is true that will teach Tony Khan to get players in early next transfer window as it looks like we won’t be getting the players Marco wants and the other clubs now know we are desperate and they will up their price I call that Karma.
I think Pahlinha is destined to become a Fulham cult. Early suitors where put off by his shoulder injury, and now this. As a Fulham supporter, with Pahlinha staying, I cannot be happier. Let us remember the midfield duel between him and Rice, away from home at the Emirates. That was a hundred million midfielder and our Pahlinha gobbled him up. I say Pahlinha for captain on an improved contract!
I am happy that Joao is staying, at least until January. I find it hard to believe that we’ve been unable to sign a striker. Did we we even try to get Beto? I would think that we are much more attractive than Everton in their current form!
Bang on Simon. I’d give him the arm band and make him our highest earner by some mile. He’s absolute class
What a shambles. Needed more players in the squad and ended up with less. Where’s the goals coming from?
Why have a billionaire owner if he won’t open his wallet.
TK start looking now for players in the January window because we will need them or you happy to be a small club.
Bayern too late to get the signing over the line. Comparing with Fulham, I would say best late than never.
Window has been the same as usual. The “big teams” buy up all the opposition ensuring their monopoly at the top of the table. Contracts are not worth the paper they’re written on. Thank God for people with interity like Marco and Willian
The worst window by a mile surely. TK has no knowledge of success at Fulham so was not prepared for the attempted pillage of our best players. Late transfer activity works both ways and late attacks mean none of the gaps likely to be filled.
Well done guys!
