Fulham are in talks with Hellas Verona over a deal for their Scottish left back Josh Doig, according to reports from Italy.

The 21 year-old made 21 appearances during his first season after a £3m move to Italy, scoring two goals and adding four assists, as I Gialloblu stayed up by the skin of their teeth – winning a Serie A relegation play-off against Spezia. Doig, who made his name at Hibernian despite coming through the youth set-up of Edinburgh city rivals Hearts, made a goal on his Verona debut and scored the winner on his first start for his new club against Sampdoria.

Doig, a Scottish under-21 international full back, made 78 appearances in three seasons at Hibs, helping them reach the Scottish Cup final in 2021 and the League Cup final in the following year. He had been linked with a £5m move to Bologna before their director of football revealed the youngster was set to sign for Torino. Neither move has materialised and now the full back, who can also play on the left side of midfield or in central defence, has captured Fulham’s attention as a potential cut-price deputy to American international Antonee Robinson.
