Fulham are leading the race to sign FC Twente’s right back Joshua Brenet, according to reports from the Netherlands.

The Whites looked at signing the 29 year-old defender during the January window but eventually settled on a loan deal for the Arsenal full back Cedric Soares. Fulham have scouted Brenet extensively this season and are now at the front of the queue to complete a deal for the former PSV Eindhoven man, who scored nine goals and added four assists in last season.

Brenet, who has won two senior caps for his country, has previously spoken warmly of Fulham’s interest and is understood to be eager to test himself in the Premier League. He expects to leave Twente this summer and the Londoners are thought to be ahead of Feyenoord, Fenerbahçe and Be?ikta? as they bid to bring in competition for Kenny Tete. Dutch website 1908.nl claims that Fulham are confident of securing Brenet’s services for a fraction of the figures they were quoted in January – with the right back said to be available for less than £900,000 as he enters the last year of his current contract.
