Teenage full back Luc de Fougerolles has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Fulham, the club confirmed tonight.
The versatile seventeen year-old, who is equally at home playing on either side of the back four, made an immediate impression after joining Fulham’s academy at the age of eight from Battersea Bedhead. The Canadian youth international has made 39 appearances at under-18 level and was rewarded with his under-21 debut against Everton last September. de Fougerolles has gone to make five further appearances for Steve Wigley’s side this season.
de Fougerolles told the club’s official website this evening:
“I’m absolutely delighted to sign on with the club that I’ve been with since I was eight years old. I’ve spent most of my life here so it’s a really special moment for myself and my family. This really feels like home. I’ve probably spent more time at Motspur Park than I have at my house. I love it. It’s amazing. My family have been really supportive and there have been lots of long car rides to away games! They’re the ones who got me into football when I was young to be honest.”
Fulham’s academy director Sean Cullen added:
“This is a reward for all Luc’s hard work this season and throughout his time in the academy. He had an opportunity with the under-21s early in the season, which probably came earlier than anyone expected, but he has taken the opportunity and kept hold of the shirt. Luc developed a professional attitude towards his development at a very young age, and I am sure this will help his transition into the next phase of his journey.”
