It is 25 years since Matthew Fox lost his life on the day of a particularly tempestuous Second Division game between Fulham and Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium. I was there that day – it was one of the first away games I’d attended on my own and it was a febrile atmosphere that had the potential to turn nasty.
Foxy, as he was known, had looked after me as a youngster at Craven Cottage without knowing about it. He was a funny, vibrant and reliable member of the Fulham family. Everyone at hammyend.com wants to send their best wishes to Matthew’s friends and family at this difficult time – he will never be forgotten. Nobody should go to a game of football and not return home.
Yeah a very sad day and can’t believe 25 years have passed with Foxy being robbed of his life.
We have said many times, as you say above nobody should go to a game and not return home.
RIP Foxy
