Marco Silva has admitted he will be hoping that his Fulham stars come back from the World Cup fully fit and ready to help the Whites resume their encouraging domestic season as six of his squad prepare to jet off to Qatar.

The Fulham head coach, speaking in the aftermath of yesterday’s devastating last-gasp defeat by Manchester United at Craven Cottage is proud that Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson, Dan James, Harry Wilson, Joao Palhinha and Aleksandar Mitrovic will all represent their countries at football’s biggest showcase. But he will be praying that they are all able to feature against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day given the unprecedented schedule that both precedes and follows a winter World Cup.

Silva said:

“Let’s hope everyone comes back in the best physical condition they can, and the players coming back from the World Cup as well because, all together and all fit, we are stronger as a team. I will be watching, I will be analysing, I will enjoy as well some games. I hope, of course, not just our players, but all the players come back in a good physical condition to be ready for the second half of the season.”
