Alfie Mawson never established himself as a starting centre back at Fulham largely on account of his dreadful misfortune with injuries. The defender was on the cusp of the England squad when he injured his knee and had just knitted together a regular run of games when he suffered another setback after putting his boots on in the changing room. Mawson was a bit-part number of the squad that won the Championship title in 2020 and returned to one of his former clubs, Wycombe Wanderers, after being released by Fulham in the summer.
