Domingos Quina is relishing his fresh start with Barnsley – after admitting his loan spell at Fulham was undermined by what he describes as ‘weird’ comments from Marco Silva.
The Portuguese playmaker made just four appearances after joining from Watford on the final day of the summer transfer window, failing to complete ninety minutes for the Londoners, and he revealed he was shaken by public criticism of his professionalism by the Fulham boss, who insisted the 21 year-old had to work harder to get in his team.
Quina, who has enjoyed an encouraging start to his new loan at Oakwell despite Barnsley’s precarious predicament at the foot of the Championship, told the Yorkshire Post:
“It was weird, I did not understand that. He has to say something to make his point, but I have nothing against him and everyone there. I will always thank him for his feelings and he made me a stronger player mentally.
It did hurt me because in training, he said I trained well. The one thing I can tell about myself, even though I like the ball and do my skills is that even when the skills are not working, I do not stop watching and running. I will always run and give my best to help the team, even when my technical quality is not there. I will work hard in training and do my best.”
