Fulham are fighting to keep hold of Fabio Carvalho and have not given up hope of tying the teenager to a long-term deal at Craven Cottage, according to the Evening Standard.
The nineteen year-old, who scored on his first senior start for Fulham last season, has established himself as one of the country’s brightest young talents by starring as the Whites have stormed to the top of the Championship. Carvalho took his goal tally to eight in seventeen games with a goal at Stoke on Saturday and is being monitored by the likes of Liverpool, Leeds, Southampton and West Ham as well as leading clubs across Europe.
The England youth international rejected Fulham’s offer of a new deal last year and, with his current contract expiring at the end of this season, he had been widely tipped to move to pastures new. But Fulham believe they can persuade him to remain with the club that has nurtured his development since the age of twelve by offering the prospect of Premier League football next term and building on the strong bond the youngster has built with head coach Marco Silva, Luis Boa Morte and several members of the first team squad.
Fulham have already insisted that they won’t do a deal in the closing days of the January transfer window and hope that the club’s strong league position and the promise of regular first-team football will make them an attractive proposition as Carvalho considers his future.
It’s a losing battle. Carvalho is not going to sign with us. With our current form, we are almost a certainty to finish in automatic promotion so best for everyone to sell him now and be done with this.
Agreed, move him out and get a team set ready for next season. Its disruptive to have hime around.
I’m not privy to the innermost thoughts of Fabio Carvalho or his advisors, so can’t claim to know whether he’s likely to sign a new contract or not. I would admit that the signs aren’t promising at present, but I personally think selling him in January would be madness – especially for the paltry sum proposed in the tabloids.
I think it is presumptuous to consider Fulham certainties to go up. We’re in a good position, yes, but there’s a lot of football still to be played and the Championship is a notoriously difficult league. Injuries and suspensions could hit us hard yet, especially if games get postponed again.
Carvalho’s a special talent and it makes no sense to sell him now with so much of the season remaining as we don’t have a viable replacement within the squad. I think we’d get a better fee at tribunal than we did for Elliott – roughly £4m if my memory serves – and he’s hardly a disruptive figure around the squad at present.
Our biggest trump card will be the fact that we could well have Premier League first team football to offer him next season. That and we only have to point to how well Pat Roberts and Ryan Sessegnon’s big moves have worked out …
Getting into the PL for next year is worth (seemingly) 100x what these offers are – so I think keeping Fab for now, and his play helping us get promoted is the best move available. Not being in this position at all would have been better, but … we are where we are.
Two additional benefits of keeping Fab through January and to the end of the season:
– As Chlo said we can stop saying we’ll probably get to PL, and that we are actually IN the PL. I imagine “odds seem good” sounds like “check is in the mail.”
– Keeping Fab *might* be sending a message that we are committed to playing and paying the players that come out of our academy. Having a great academy packed with prospects that are all convinced they’ll never play for FFC first team because we’ll always bring in some experienced veteran (I’m thinking Jonjo Shelvey) to play in front of them isn’t very helpful. The club has been in a cycle of not keeping our high quality kids and that cycle needs to be broken. Not collecting the tiny amount of money that reports are suggesting teams are offering for Fab in January seems like a very small price to pay.
If he signed a four year deal he would be guaranteed a starting
place in a Premiership team and becomes a club legend. He could move for a much bigger fee in a couple of years. He would then be more likely to be in a better position to be a regular in top side like Liverpool. Why would he want to join West Ham or Southampton, neither of which are a step up from a Premiership Fulham.
Watch this space! Carvalho is going nowhere.
Read between the lines when Marco Silva talks of him: ‘I know what Fabio has said to me”.
Observe the joy he shows playing in this team, especially when we score.
Take note of the five minutes that Marco Silva spent talking privately to him after the Birmingham game, how Fabio listened intently to every word, how they hugged at the end.
Watch the fun and joy of his joint interview with Muniz.
Consider the fact that he is surrounded by Portuguese speaking coaches in addition to Muniz.
We are 90% certainties to be playing Premiership football next season.
Why would he want to be playing anywhere else? Southampton? Don’t make me laugh. Barcelona? They are billions in debt. Liverpool? Whoever at Fulham would even countenance these thieves stealing another of our youngsters should be hung, drawn and quartered.
As long as Fulham Football Club demonstrate their willingness to pay the kid what he is worth, he is going NOWHERE!
If he helps us to get promoted that is worth far more to the club than £5m.
if he helps us get promoted to the Premier league that will be worth far more to us than £5m.
Liverpool know where they can stick it !
Get him to sign a contract now. With the promise of allowing him to go in the summer if he still wants to.
That way we keep him for the run in.plus we can sell him on for a decent amount. Simples!!!
He will get a big move in the future but why not sign a 2 year deal with Fulham and play premiership football with Fulham if he does well his valuation will rise and when he eventually goes Fulham can get a big fee.Getting 5 million for him now is peanuts and why move to Southampton? Really?
If Carvalho is daft enough to think he’ll walk into any top premier League side right now then let him go, personally I don’t think he is, he must know staying and going up with us is his best chance of playing in the top tier. All of this posturing is dependent on us getting promoted and I’m confident he’ll sign when promotion is assured. Patience people.
I’ve supported Fulham since the days of Jezzard Robson Haynes and Arthur Stevens to name a few 75 years in fact and this one could be one of the best, let’s try and keep him and make sure we are equipped for when we go up this time ,I now live in Lincs so can’t see my team these days ,we have the makings of a brilliant team here
I’ve not got your longevity, Pete, but I agree with your assessment. Hope you are enjoying this season and you’re very welcome to pop by and share your thoughts when you can.
The player agent here is a major problem , to me the ideal situation would be to sign a contract with the proviso that if Fulham are not playing in the premiership he can leave for 8million in the summer or 10 million the following summer
If we think he’ll go when his contact is up, can we get what we can for him now on condition that he plays for us until the end of the season?
This issue has been simmering for some time and it has reached a point that a decision is required The choices are. Carvalho signs a new contract full stop, he signs a contract that allows him to leave for a set fee if Fulham are not in the Premiership. He goes for a fee now but stays o loan until the end of the season. He is transferred to the highest bidder this month.
Based on what we know in the press, it seems very likely that Carvalho has told the team he would like to stay IF FFC is in the premiership next year. If we don’t get promoted, he’ll want to move on. If we do get promoted, staying with FFC, where he is happy and will get EPL playing time, would likely be a better option than going to a top EPL team (where he will not get playing time) or a lower EPL team (where he may not be as happy. Given the situation, waiting to sign a contract until the promotion issue is resolved is the rational thing for him to do.
