It was a disappointing result for Fulham today in difficult circumstances. Some things are bigger than football and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Paul.Â
Marek Rodak: The worst of a string of mediocre games, it’s been a while since Rodak has had a great performance and in the meantime some fairly average shots have found the back of the net, no more so than Bowler’s goal today which squirmed disappointingly past Rodak, despite a slight deflection I’d still expect him to make that save if he was on form. He did make a few saves throughout the game and did well dealing with a few crosses but these were all routine tasks for any keeper. Time for Gazzaniga to have another crack? 5
Denis Odoi: Odoi has provided valuable cover this season whilst Tete has been injured but today was disappointing from him. On a couple of occasions in the first half his errors could’ve been costly but he took a yellow card to stop one of them and in fairness he tracked back well to recover on the second occasion but he offered little protection down the right hand side particularly in the second half and also offered little going forwards today. 4
Tosin Adarabioyo: The less said the better, on his day our best defender but today wasn’t his day and was arguably his worst performance in a Fulham shirt. Apart from one great ball over the top to Wilson early on, countless long balls up field found nothing but orange shirts and he seemed lost at times in the second half when the ball came forwards. Ultimately it was his far too casual pass towards Odoi which led to Blackpool’s equaliser and with seemingly no communication across the back line today we could easily have conceded more. 3
Tim Ream: Our back line really didn’t have a great day and Ream added to the mistakes giving the ball away cheaply on a couple of occasions, one of them almost leading to a Blackpool winner. The defensive performances, not just from Ream but as a whole haven’t been up to par recently and it’s starting to look a little worrying, if anyone is to come into the club this January I’d imagine it would be a defender. 4
Joe Bryan: Bryan started really well especially going forwards, linking intricately with Kebano and Carvalho which culminated in an early lead. He had the toughest task of any of the back line today as he had to deal with the constant and threat of Josh Bowler. He did well at times but also got done for pace and skill on a number of occasions and was caught out of position in the second half but luckily we weren’t punished. 5
Harrison Reed: Much like the rest of the side he had a decent if not spectacular first half and helped to nullify any Blackpool threat but he did a poor job filling the gap in front of the defensive line for large parts of the second half and they had far too much room to exploit us and pull our fullbacks out of position. 5
Tom Cairney: A really great first half from the captain, the ball seemingly stuck to his feet like glue as he twisted and turned his way through the centre of the park and helped to shift the ball wide and forwards. He struggled to make the same impact in the second half and found he had far less space and less free men open in front of him often resulting in sideways or backwards passes. 6
Harry Wilson: On another day Wilson would’ve had a first half brace. He was electric on the right wing and found himself in on goal early on, his lovely chip so nearly found the net to make it 2-0 before the interruption in play. No doubt it would’ve been a different game and result had that gone in. Soon after play resumed he had another great chance but he was denied by Grimshaw who was quick to come out of goal and close him down. Like the rest of the attack it was a different story in the second half with much less space and he found it difficult to exploit the same gaps he had found in the first half. 6
Fabio Carvalho: Once again Carvalho was the standout performer, he made a great run to receive the ball from Kebano and then played a simple ball into Mitrovic who couldn’t miss to make it 1-0 after five minutes. Throughout the rest of the game he was composed and skilful, taking players on and bringing the ball forwards with ease. He so nearly made it 2-0 in the second half when he used his strength and skill to get through a crowd of three Blackpool players before latching onto his own pass which Kebano let through his legs, he took it past one more Blackpool defender before finding the inside of the post and was unlucky to see the ball come back out again, perhaps he should’ve scored. He was quiet after that but showed again why so many top teams are after him. 7
Neeskens Kebano: Kebano continued his fine form in the first half, particularly early on the right side of Blackpool’s defence didn’t know what to do with him as his delightful ball through to Carvalho ultimately led to us taking the lead. Aside from one moment where he managed to cut inside and have a shot deflected for a corner he was quiet in the second half and struggled to take players on to the same extent. Blackpool did well to nullify our threat in the second half. 6
Aleksandar Mitrovic: On hand to tap in his 28th goal of the season in 26 games with what must’ve been the easiest of the lot. Mitrovic held the ball up well at times but struggled to get many opportunities for himself after the opening goal and his head seemed to drop slightly after the Blackpool equaliser. 6Â
SUBSTITUTES:
Nathaniel Chalobah: Chalobah shored up the midfield slightly when he came on, filling the gap which the tiring Reed was struggling to do although there were still times where we were exploited down either side. He had a brief sight of goal outside the area but his shot never looked like it would bother Grimshaw and it fell a good few yards wide. 5
Rodrigo Muniz: After such a great display at Stoke many of us were expecting so much more from his cameo today but he struggled to get much time on the ball. In fairness to him he was only really given long ball service which he struggled to do anything with. 4
Anthony Knockaert: Anthony Knockaert coming on at wingback isn’t what I expected to see at any stage this season but it happened and he gave it a good go. He found room to get a cross in but sent it slightly too deep beyond Muniz, overall he provided good energy and a different kind of threat if nothing else. 5
Chalobah and Muniz were the only 2 players looking hungry when they came. Odoi should be dropped for good from now on. Bryan was mediocre today and CBs were awful, from there costly errors and somewhat poor defending. Carvalho was utilised more in the first half down the left hand side which led to our goal but it completely stopped after the stoppage.
