Interesting little snippet from the Manchester United website this morning. Mason Greenwood, the talented teenage forward, has picked out Joe Bryan as the toughest opponent he has faced in his career.
Responding to a fans’ question and answer session, Greenwood said: “I’ve probably got to say, it might be a surprising one, but do you know [Joe] Bryan, the one for Fulham? He allowed me no space, no time on the ball, when we played them home and away. It was one of my most difficult games for us. He’s one you probably wouldn’t think I’d say his name, but he was getting tight to me and not giving me much space. He was a good defender and he was probably my toughest challenge.”
Bryan, whose goals took Fulham back to the Premier League last summer, also scored the equaliser at Old Trafford when the Whites claimed a creditable draw in May.
Almost like he should have been starting ahead of Robinson all season…
Have to admit to this being a bit of a surprise. I’ve always considered Joe as excellent going forward but suspect defensively. Shows what I know I guess.
I rate him highly for his crossing ability which we certainly could have done with last season. He’s not perfect defensively by any means but still superior to Robinson in my opinion and worth putting in for what he offers going forward. There are some well documented other reasons why he possibly wasn’t selected last season but I believe we can rely on him
Agree. Don’t know why Robinson so highly rated as Bryan has the same strengths and weaknesses. Both seem better suited to playing as wing backs. Was hoping City would buy the former especially for the money quoted.I am sure Mitro appreciated the assists from Joe the season before last.
Interesting this. Do think having Bryan whipping those balls in for Mitrovic will be crucial this season.
