Bordeaux have launched an ambitious bid to loan Fulham full back Antonee Robinson despite their financial difficulties, according to reports from France this afternoon.
The Ligue One side are keen to offer the American international a top flight opportunity after his impressive Premier League performances last season. The 23 year-old left back made 33 appearances in all competitions in his first year at Craven Cottage after signing from Wigan last summer but was unable to prevent Fulham from an immediate return to the Championship.
New manager Marco Silva is understood to be keen to keep Robinson at the club, despite rumoured interest from Wolves and Manchester City. Bordeaux’s audacious attempt to take the former Everton trainee on loan is likely to be undermined by the fact that they will unable to match Robinson’s Fulham wages, believed to be in excess of £40,000 a week.
It would be madness to let him go out on loan we have to keep him.
I suppose he’ll be better in the Championship than we saw from him last year. But Joe Bryan should still be the starting left back, and Steven Sess is perfectly good cover for that position that this level, so Robinson could easily go. He’s really not so good that he must be kept at all costs; he’s just quick, and that’s all.
Should offer them a deal – £6.5m cash (up front), for Seri (permanently) and Robinson (one year loan). Covers our fee amortisation for the year and clears out some chunky salaries.
That said, dreaming aside (no team is buying Seri), we do need to lower the wage bill. If Robinson’s wages really are that high, then Bryan could easily play at LB for us next season. I think we’d rather sell than loan, but it seems permanent sales are hard to come by this summer.
