Fulham have made a £16.5m offer for Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to reports in Spain this evening.
The French centre back is destined to leave the Spanish giants this summer as he is not in the plans of new manager Ronald Koeman and has already met with Barcelona officials to discuss his departure. The 20 year-old, who spent last season on loan with Schalke, has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League with Wolves, Leicester and Everton all reportedly interested in bringing him to England.
Todibo, who came through the Toulouse youth academy, moved to Barcelona in January 2019 having made ten league appearances for the French side. He has only made five senior appearances for Barcelona and struggled on loan at Schalke last season, playing ten games. The young defender has won five caps for France at under-20 level.
Fulham are desperately seeking central defensive reinforcements after losing their first two Premier League games, shipping seven goals. The Londoners are reportedly in talks with Sassuolo over the possible transfer of Brazilian centre back Marlon, but are thought to be looking to sign at least one more centre half to strengthen Scott Parker’s options before the close of the transfer window. Their hefty offer for Todibo reportedly includes another £4.6m in performance related add-ons.
He may be a talent but not played a lot of games in the last to seasons , never played in Premiership . We need someone to hit ground running not sure this is the answer. More one for future
Agree with Daniel this has been said on every site how many times have we supporters got to say it,alright this guys a CB but what about Tah or Bremen apparently we have the money let’s go for the best not the second or third best but the worry is we are not regarded as a big club would these guys come to us if we were Man City or Liverpool
Why are we signing a CB when we are clearly lacking up top. Needs goals to stay in this league FFS.
Looks like he’s signed for Barcelona judging by the pic. A shame, but obviously we’re not going to compete with a team like Barca for a signing lol. Gotta get our heads straight, good luck to the kid though he looks cute
Read the first paragraph Sonny ?
Typical Tony Khan signing if it happens! He probably looks good on paper(stats wise),
I’m really not wholly convinced that Scott, sadly has anything to do with the signing of players. I mean he has to no more than Tony Khan, what a sad, sad state of affairs.
Age is not a barrier to performance. Alfie Mawson, strong premier league experience… kind of flopped. Conversely to the majority of comments. I think this would be strategically a good piece of business. For Toulouse he could fill in at LB when necessary as seen in his show reels. He’s astute in possession (suits Parker’s system) , has aerial presence, and is quicker than Ream or Odoi as well as having considerably more upside being so young. I also feel he could probably do a job in DM if required as he’s got quick reflexes and good ball control. All things considered at the price, I think it’s a move worth pursuing. He offers great long-term potential, he may well step up to PL standard too- if deemed good enough for Barcelona I do not see why Fulham fans should have an issue with this. His versatility is important – he could realistically play anywhere along the back. And also in a 3 with Ream, Tobido (sweeper) and Hector in games we have to sit and soak pressure.
Sonny ???
But we need Premiership experience and right now. Or Pique. I’m good with either
Agree with Rob, many Fulham fans are instantly seeking negatives to signings and questioning tony khan before they have a clue who the player is. As Rob said he fits nicely into Parker’s ball playing from the back system along with Marlon and provides a long term future as he Is so young.
Too young for this season.
Why don’t we get a defender we know and has premiership experience instead of these players nobody knows about,as per my previous lets go for chris smalling. We need aquality defender quickly or we will be on the slippery slope
What happened to all the CB we were looking at who have experience we have the money go and get them before it’s to late
Does anything else need be said?
‘Y’all keep hyping Aurojo while we haven’t seen much of him except against bottom teams and third division teams, while Todibo on the other hand did great against strong opposition (Inter) when he was given the chance at Barca, played in ligue1 and did pretty well as well, went to Schalke was doing great before covid he was even name player of the month for them. The only reason these idiots are selling him is financial reason. Best thing would be to keep both Todibo and Aurojo at the club instead of buying Garcia I don’t see anything he got more than these two. He was here and choose to leave he made that decision so he can stay at city or go somewhere else.

I think this seems like a signing with a lot of potential upside for the quoted cost. As has been mentioned above, if he was good enough for Barca then he should be good enough for us & just because he hasn’t broken into their 1st team consistently, doesn’t mean he won’t be a good player for most teams. Do we think that if he had broken into the Barca 1st team and was consistently getting a start there that he would even be a remote possibility for a club like us? Any player joining will need to give genuine consideration to the fact they might be coming for a relegation fight and will want release clauses etc etc. I think it’s worth a punt.
My only real concern is the lack of consistent 1st team football over the last couple of years and the lack of prior Premiership experience but It wouldn’t put me off. I agree with John Collins above that if we could get someone like Smalling in to be a leader at the back, partnering a player like Tobido & maybe a 3 with Hector then we would be a lot more solid.
Small King would cost a kings ransom and is wanted elsewhere, if you are going down the route of experience and a one season fix
Phil Jones of man Utd would welcome the chance of regular games would cost little other than wages, ignore the fact he is no longer no 1 there, he is plenty good enough for us short term.
Just a thought.
Smalling, should have opened the above column
Hit the ground running, experienced, CB on loan OR if we buy young unproven that’s fine, as long as they stay if we go down. What we don’t want is something in the middle I.e. expensive, unproven in Prem and will leave if we go down. The truth is we may probably go down anyway so use the money to buy young, long term talent combined with the odd proven prem experience to give us a chance
An American amateur signing players.in a sport he knows nothing about is an absurdity far too many of you seem to tolerate!!
Experienced CB’s Coat, James Tarkoski £50m only Man City etc can afford that
