Lucas Piazon has spoken of his delight at returning to Fulham this afternoon – two days after he secured another loan move from Chelsea.
The Brazilian forward will spend another year at Craven Cottage after his successful stint in the white half of west London saw Slavisa Jokanovic’s side reach the Championship play-off semi-finals last season. The 23 year-0ld has already seen a taste of the action in pre-season, although Piazon and his new employers will want to forget about yesterday’s 8-2 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea in a training game.
The likable forward was keen to take the positives from an unusual outing at his parent club’s Cobham training ground. Piazon told Fulham’s official website:
It feels nice to put the shirt on again. It was my first day back at the club today and it was nice to see everyone back and to be with them again was nice. It was a good feeling and to be back with them on the pitch again was nice, it was good.
I had to be at Motspur Park at 1.30pm today so I got in a bit earlier to make sure I could get in and see everyone before I got changed to come to the match here.
That was the first time I have ever played against Chelsea, I wasn’t even allowed until late on Friday night when Chelsea spoke to Fulham and said that I could play. Of course when I signed on Friday I really wanted to play, to be involved and get out on the pitch and be with my Fulham teammates again.
It was a tough test, Fulham have had some busy weeks building up to this and last week was really busy I understand, so I think the legs were a little bit tired. It’s good to get minutes and to improve our fitness, this is the most important thing for now. We must get ready for our trip to Austria and keep the hard work going.
One of the positives of Piazon’s return to Craven Cottage is that he will need little introduction to the rest of the Fulham squad and reintegrating the Brazilian into Jokanovic’s side won’t take too long. The player himself admits that the style of football favoured by the Fulham head coach played a big part in sealing another loan spell.
I am used to the way we play football here. Obviously I spent all of last season here so I know what the Head Coach wants and I know the players really well as well so I felt comfortable out there, it’s just the legs were gone a little bit but we will get there.
Fulham’s focus now switches to a second summer tour with the first team squad flying out to Austria to continue their pre-season preparations with friendlies against London rivals West Ham and SV Darmstadt in the coming week.
We travel to Austria on Tuesday, we will get back to work on Monday and spend Tuesday travelling. The hard work is coming and we are going to be ready for the first game of the Championship season. It’s getting closer to that first game and the players are getting fitter and we are all getting more minutes so it’s important. We have a couple of games next week and these friendly games are important to us.
Piazon is in little doubt that promotion is Fulham’s aim at the start of the new campaign – and he hopes he can be a success second time around.
Last season we had a good season at Fulham, I had a good season as well and I felt pretty comfortable at the club and I believe the club can achieve good things this season, so of course I wanted to stay
