Fulham defender Dan Burn has been told he must bide his time before pulling on a Fulham shirt again.
The central defender was just itching to get on the pitch against Sunderland at the weekend – not least because he hails from just up the road in Blyth.
It’s been a spartan time for the 6ft 7ins player since he lost his place, ironically, to another Geordie, Shaun Hutchinson, rated second in our players poll for his showing against the Black Cats.
Burn was a sacrificial lamb in a young side after the 5-0 home caning by Watford on December 5, despite 17 appearances and two goals up till then.
However, manager Kit Symons has hauled the 22-year-old to one side to reassure him over his future.
“Dan’s a fantastic player, and I had a chat with him about that, because the others are doing well, and someone has to miss out unfortunately,” explained Symons.
“That’s that at the moment but things change very quickly in football, injuries, loss-of-form, suspension. So like Hutch he needs to keep himself fit and ready. When he gets the opportunity I’m sure he’ll be ready to take it.”
