Fulham manager Martin Jol has challenged Zdenek Grygera to prove he’s worth a new contract over the course of the season.
The Czech defender only signed a one-year deal when he joined from Juventus on a free transfer on the final day of the summer transfer window, although it does have an option for another year. Jol wants the versatile defender to earn his contract extension by continuing his fine recent form.
Grygera has been good from the first game. We have agreements with him, and if he plays a certain role and does well we’ll sit down [and talk]. However, the risk is he could go to another club as well.
Looking for a bit of inside info for my Fantasy Premier League team on Grygera. What are his chances of starting at RB the rest of the season?
Hi Ceri,
Grygera’s been the first choice right back pretty much since he signed and looks a good bet to stay there. The only possible change will be when Hughes returns to fitness and if he comes back into central defence – then Jol has a straight choice between Grygera and Baird, who had been a regular at right back before Grygera arrived.
