The inference from this article is that Martin Jol is preparing to loan David Stockdale out to give him first-team experience.
Jol seems to be settled on Mark Schwarzer as his number one, but affirms the believe that 25 year-old still has ‘a bright future’ at Craven Cottage.
Mark Schwarzer is a great goalkeeper, one of the best I’ve seen, the number one. The only situation with [David] Stockdale is that he’s a very young goalkeeper and he did ever so well when he came in last year.
So, the only discussion we’ve got with the player is should he play, should he go on loan somewhere, or do you want to keep him as a number two. If you make a decision to put him on loan then you need another goalkeeper, a number two.
I won’t sell him, we’ll never sell him, because I think his future is bright. But the only thing is, if you make the decision to play him every week, we need a club which will promise me he will play every week.
Not happy about this. I wanted David to compete for the #1 spot. He’s more than capable of taking over now. I wasn’t happy with Schwarzer for various reasons last season.
Two good goalies: I’ve been impressed by David every time I’ve seen him play. Mark uncharacteristically looked dodgy / unfocused in a few games and maybe needs to feel a bit more under pressure for the no. 1 spot
